Somewhere in between making a custom fuzz pedal for a good friend and putting that into a usable pedal, I asked myself "what the hell do these diodes do anyway?" So after refining the circuit and getting PCBs made, I put one together for myself to see the difference that diode made. The pots are all reverse tapered because I had to flip the PCB in order to access the socketed diodes easily on the lid of this cookie tin I found at a local thrift store. Super fun for the gear nerd to swap out diode types and see how much the tone changes. I currently have good old red LEDs in the first fuzz stage, and it sounds insane!
